Tesla Referral Code UK — Frequently Asked Questions

The quick answers to what UK buyers actually ask about the Tesla referral programme in 2026. For the full detail, see the main reference guide.

Common questions

If I sell the car, do the free Supercharging miles go with it?

No — and this follows from where the credit actually sits. It is applied to the Tesla account tied to the order, not to the vehicle, so selling or trading the car does not move it. Whatever remains unspent stays on your account and can be used on another Tesla you have access to on that account. It is one of the few things in this process that is genuinely yours rather than the car's.

Do the 650 miles expire if I do not use them?

Be careful here, because two different things get described interchangeably. Tesla documents a 12-month expiry from the Grant Date for Tesla Credits. A mileage allowance is not obviously the same object as a pound-denominated credit balance, and we have not been able to confirm at primary source that the identical clock applies to it.

So rather than assert either answer: look at what your own account shows once the benefit lands — a credit balance in pounds, or an allowance in miles — because the wording attached to the one you hold is the wording that governs it. Assume no expiry and you may lose a balance; assume a hard deadline and you may rush a purchase you did not want.

Does a referral work on an inventory or demo car?

An inventory car is still a new-vehicle order, so the mechanics are the same: the link has to be opened before you start, and the benefit has to appear in the order summary before you pay. What differs is speed — inventory orders can move to payment much faster than a custom build, which compresses the window in which you would notice a missing benefit. If you are buying from stock, check the summary deliberately rather than assuming the shorter process left the referral intact.

A used Tesla is a different matter entirely: there is no new-vehicle order for a link to attach to, so no referral applies.

Does using a Tesla referral code cost me anything?

No. A referral code is free to use and does not change the price of the car. It simply adds the buyer benefit to your Tesla account after you take delivery.

What do I actually get with a UK referral code in 2026?

650 miles of free Supercharging credit on a new Model 3 or Model Y ordered through a referral link. It is credited to your Tesla account after delivery and can be used at any Tesla Supercharger until it is spent. Always confirm the current figure on the Tesla UK Refer & Earn page before you order.

When do the 650 free Supercharging miles activate?

After your car is delivered. The credit lands on the Tesla account tied to the order — not the moment you place it — so there is nothing to redeem manually.

Do I get a free Full Self-Driving trial like buyers in the US?

Not in the UK, at least not yet. The US benefit is a 3-month FSD (Supervised) trial, but FSD (Supervised) is not approved for use on UK roads as of mid-2026 (it is under VCA review, with a realistic UK arrival of late 2026 / early 2027). A UK referral gives Supercharging miles, not an FSD trial. See myths vs the truth and the “FSD” vs “FSD (Supervised)” definition.

Which Tesla models qualify?

Model 3 and Model Y. Model S and Model X were removed from the referral programme in 2026, and the Cybertruck is not sold in the UK. See which models qualify, or the Model 3 and Model Y notes.

Is the benefit different between Model 3 and Model Y?

No. Both qualifying models receive the same 650 free Supercharging miles in the UK. Choose on price, space and range, not on the referral.

Can I add a referral code after I have ordered?

No. You must open the referral link before you configure and place the order. The benefit cannot be applied retroactively once the order is confirmed.

Do I type the code in as a coupon?

No. There is no coupon field. You open the referral link, which carries the code, and Tesla applies the benefit automatically. See how to apply.

Can I stack a referral with the £3,750 Electric Car Grant?

No — and the reason is not the price. The grant has two gates: a £37,000 list-price cap checked by the VCA, and an environmental criterion checked by OZEV that applies to the manufacturer, requiring a Science Based Target verified by the SBTi. Tesla does not hold one, so a Tesla is outside the scheme at any price — a cheaper configuration would not qualify either. The referral benefit is separate and applies regardless. See UK incentives.

Does the referral depend on how I finance the car (cash, PCP or lease)?

No. The 650 free Supercharging miles apply to a new-car order regardless of whether you pay cash, use PCP, or lease — as long as the order goes through a referral link. Third-party leasing brokers order differently, so confirm with the broker whether a referral can be attached before you commit.

Do used or inventory Teslas qualify?

The referral benefit is tied to new-car orders. Inventory (in-stock new) cars ordered through a referral link generally qualify; used cars do not. Confirm on tesla.com/en_gb for the specific listing.

How do the rewards work for the person who shares the code?

The referrer earns Tesla Credits for each successful referral, capped at 10 per calendar year. Reported credit amounts vary across sources, so we do not quote a figure until it is confirmed on the Tesla UK page. You can list your own code via our Share your code section.

Does the referrer see my details?

No. The owner whose code you use only ever sees that a referral succeeded — never your identity or contact details.

Disclosure: the links above are referral links — using one credits the owner with Tesla Credits at no cost to you, and gives you the buyer benefit.
