The Tesla UK Referral Timeline: What Happens and When, Step by Step

Buyers often ask us for a timeline rather than a list of rules: what happens, and in what order, from clicking a referral link to actually having 650 free Supercharging miles to spend. Here it is, stage by stage.
Stage 1 — you open the link
The moment you open a UK referral link (a ts.la/<code> or tesla.com/referral URL), it redirects to tesla.com/en_gb with the referral tagged to that browser session. Nothing is booked yet — this step just attaches the benefit so it's ready when you configure.
Stage 2 — you configure, same session
You build your Model 3 or Model Y in the same browser, choosing trim, colour, wheels and Full Self-Driving (Supervised) if you want it. This can take minutes or days — there's no published time limit on how long the tagging lasts, so as a rule of thumb, avoid clearing cookies or switching browsers/devices between opening the link and finishing your order.
Stage 3 — order confirmation
Before you pay the order fee, check the order summary shows the referral. Once you confirm and pay, you get an order confirmation — this is the point at which the benefit is locked to your specific order, and it genuinely cannot be added or changed after this step.
Stage 4 — production and delivery
Your car goes into the production and delivery queue like any other UK order; lead times vary by model, trim and region and Tesla doesn't publish a fixed UK figure, so check your account for your own estimate rather than relying on a generic number.
Stage 5 — the credit lands after delivery
The 650 free Supercharging miles are credited to your Tesla account after delivery, not at order time. In our experience this shows up in the Tesla app's charging or referral section rather than as a lump sum you have to claim manually. From there it's drawn down automatically each time you Supercharge, until it's used up.
A dated example
If you open a link and place an order in late July 2026, the referral is locked in at Stage 3 (order confirmation) that same day — the only thing that shifts with your build slot is Stage 4/5, when delivery and the credit actually happen. Where to check your own timeline, not a generic one
Every UK order sits in your own Tesla Account, and that's the only place a genuine delivery estimate lives — a blog post, including this one, can't tell you your build slot. Once your order is confirmed, the app and account dashboard typically show a status that moves through the production and delivery stages; if it stalls or the estimate shifts, that's normal for a made-to-order vehicle and isn't connected to the referral in any way.
Reservation vs. order — don't confuse the two
Some Tesla models have, at times, used a smaller refundable reservation fee ahead of a full configuration, rather than going straight to a firm order. If a reservation step exists for your model when you buy, the same rule from Stage 1 still applies: the referral link needs to be open before you start that reservation, not added afterwards when you convert it into a full order. Treat "reservation" and "order" as the same trigger point for referral purposes unless Tesla's own UK checkout tells you otherwise.
What doesn't move the timeline
Two things people sometimes assume affect the schedule, but don't: which Supercharger you plan to use first (the miles work at any UK or European Supercharger once credited), and whether you paid cash, PCP or lease (the referral timeline is the same regardless of how you financed the car). The only genuine variable is your build slot.
