Where Each UK Referral Number Appears in the Tesla App

A reference map of the Tesla app screens holding a pending referral, the granted Supercharging miles, the Grant Date and the expiry — and which one is authoritative.

Referral information is spread across several screens that update at different times. Most disputes about whether a benefit arrived are disputes about which screen someone was reading. This entry maps them and identifies the authoritative one.

1. The order summary — the only screen that decides anything

Located in the ordering flow, before payment. On an eligible UK order it shows the referral benefit as an included line. This is the only place the attachment is ever visible, and because a referral cannot be added after an order is placed, it is the only screen on which the information is actionable.

2. The pending referral

After a referred order is placed, the referral appears as pending: recognised, not yet granted. Nothing is spendable in this state, and nothing should be — every expiry clock begins at the Grant Date, so a long pending period costs nothing. A referral that failed does not pend; it never appears at all.

3. The granted balance and its Grant Date

When the transaction settles, the pending entry becomes a balance with a date. For a UK buyer that balance is Supercharging distance — approximately 650 miles — and the date is the Grant Date. The distance expires six months from it. For a referrer the balance is Tesla Credits, expiring twelve months from it.

4. The Supercharging balance in use

A distance allowance is consumed automatically at the stall, before any payment method is charged, so the driver sees no charge until the allowance is exhausted. There is no redemption step and nothing to confirm; the only visible evidence is the balance falling.

5. The Loot Box

Applies to credits rather than to a distance allowance. Redemption happens here and redemptions are final. The documented perimeter — no cash, no transfers, no reissues, no gift cards — is described in the companion entry on exclusions, including the one category sources dispute.

6. The expiry warning email

Not a screen, but part of the same record. Tesla emails a 30-day warning before a balance lapses. It is the last prompt available, and an expired balance cannot be reissued — so it should be treated as a deadline rather than a notification.

Which one is authoritative, and for what

For whether the referral attached: the order summary, before payment. For what you now hold and until when: the granted balance with its date. Everything else is provisional, a catalogue, or a reminder.

7. The order confirmation, as a record

After an order is placed, the confirmation retains the benefit line that appeared on the summary. Its value is evidentiary rather than operational: if the summary showed the benefit and the account never receives it, the confirmation is the document that supports a support enquiry. Collect it, the order number and the delivery date before writing, and ask the narrow question — the benefit was on the order, it is not on the account, can it be applied — rather than the broad one.

The number that appears on none of these screens

The referrer's credit amount as published by third parties. Reporting states $250 in some places and $500 in others; both cannot be current. The figure that describes a given account is the balance on that account, which is precisely why this reference maps screens instead of quoting numbers.
